The rock tumbler is usually made of hard rubber at least on the inside. Mine has an aluminum plate inside the rubber lid to help give it rigidity but when it is closed up, there is no exposed metal.

This article is informative and a good place to start. I haven't tried it yet. I have done the CIA method (alcohol precipitated BP) and it produces powder worthy of respect. I did a small batch (500g) as a test of the method, and found it to be useful powder, infinitely better than green/mortar+pestle stuff, but not close to ball milling.
